Erica Kallis
Violin & Viola
Pronouns: She/Her
Erica began violin lessons when she was 6 years old, learning via the Suzuki method. She continued lessons, orchestra, and choir through high school, earning a Bachelor’s in Music Education (voice), and has continued studying violin with a teacher off and on throughout adulthood. In high school (Austin TX), she sat in on jam sessions with a local traditional bluegrass/Texas swing band and started dabbling in improvisation and started learning to play by ear. Since moving to Columbia in 2017 she has enjoyed opportunities to play violin and sing with various bands playing a range of genres (gypsy jazz, folk rock, blues, and country) and also plays in the Columbia Civic Orchestra. Erica has taught violin for 15 years. She teaches classical violin as a foundation for learning other styles, and incorporates music theory, ear training, and improvisation into lessons.
